• We need to continue to work on making teacher pay competitive with our neighboring states. We cannot afford to lose more exceptional candidates to our competition.
  • We need to bring more equal representation to Pierre to help eliminate the corruption that brought us problems with EB 5, Mid-Central, and Gear Up, and led to the tragic deaths of 4 children. 40 years of one party rule, 2016 Legislature: 81% Republican, 19% Democrat, 0% Independent/Other.
  • I am in favor of the expansion of Medicaid in South Dakota.
    • The Governor's plan is a good plan and as designed will be at least budget neutral and more realistically will be budget positive.
    • Brings needed coverage to approximately 50,000 more South Dakotans.
    • Has been shown to reduce emergency care and charitable care at hospitals in expansion states.
  • I support Initiated Measure 21 in capping Payday lenders’ interest rates at 36%.
  • I am against Constitutional Amendment U which would eliminate the amount of interest a Payday lender may charge on short term loans.  This would effectively kill Initiated Measure 21's rate cap.
  • I support Constitutional Amendment T, calling for an impartial redistricting commission to eliminate the gerrymandering of districts.
    • September 1, 2016 registration: 46% Republican, 32% Democrat, 21% Independent, 0.5% Other.
    • 2016 Legislature: 81% Republican, 19% Democrat, 0% Independent/Other.
  • We need to honor the majority opinion of the South Dakota people. In November of 2014, South Dakota voted on and passed Initiated Measure 18, establishing $8.50 per hour as the minimum wage for all non-tipped employees. The 2015 South Dakota Legislature disagreed with the people's decision and enacted Senate Bill 177, which lowered the minimum wage for all employees under the age of 18 to $7.50 per hour. Senate Bill 177 has been referred to the people of South Dakota as Referred Law 20 and the people of South Dakota will again have to vote on this issue in the 2016 General Election.
  • I support the establishment of clean energy in South Dakota, specifically wind and solar.
